Valentine Crayon Hearts for the class!

This year, my daughter and I spent an afternoon in the kitchen making her Valentine’s Day cards for her classmates. It is one of our Valentine’s yet!. We used broken crayons to make colorful melted crayon hearts, and she loved watching the colors swirl together and melt. It was easy, a little messy, and full of giggles—exactly the kind of simple tradition that makes preschool or even elementary Valentine’s Day feel extra special. I am not a huge fan of handing out candy so little projects like this are fun to create!

How to Make Melted Crayon Hearts in the Oven

This method is simple, hands-off, and great for making multiple hearts at once (adult supervision required).

Supplies

  • Broken crayons (paper removed)

  • Silicone heart molds or a metal muffin tin

  • Baking sheet

  • Oven

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 250°F (low heat is key).

  2. Place silicone molds or muffin tin on a baking sheet.

  3. Fill each heart with a mix of broken crayon pieces.

  4. Carefully place in the oven for 10–15 minutes, until crayons are fully melted.

  5. Remove from oven and let cool completely.

  6. Gently pop the hearts out once hardened.
