What’s the difference - Camera Phone vs DSLR?

Everyone has a camera in their pocket. Smartphones can take beautiful pictures of your daily life, but as a photographer I notice a big difference between phone photos and DSLR photography, especially when it comes to capturing family moments and details!

Smartphones are perfect for quick, everyday memories when you're out and about. They’re super convenient, portable, social media and sending to family and friends. But with limited lens options mean phone cameras struggle in low light, have less control over depth of field, blurry and can’t always capture the details that make a photo truly special.

DSLR cameras, on the other hand, offer professional-level quality. With larger sensors, interchangeable lenses, and full manual control, they create crisp, high-resolution images with beautiful background blur. This makes them perfect for family portraits, milestone events, and candid lifestyle sessions. DSLR photos also print beautifully and hold up over time creating treasured keepsakes.

Whether it’s a rainy-day Portland adventure, a cozy home session, or a senior portrait in the PNW everyone wants the perfect photo…
